The Georgia Bulldogs ranked at No. 4 in the first AP poll of the 2020 season. UGA reached a total of 1,270 points and no first-place votes. Earlier in August, the first coaches poll of the 2020 season also saw the Bulldogs debuting at No. 4.

The Bulldogs ranking as the 4th in the country puts the team behind Clemson, Ohio State, and Alabama, with the Oklahoma Sooners at No. 5. In the 2019 season, the team also ranked 4th but behind LSU, Clemson, and Ohio State.
This season, Georgia is one of the seven SEC teams ranked in the top 25. The other SEC teams include Alabama (2), LSU (6), Florida (8), Auburn (11), Texas A&M (13), and Tennessee (25). The SEC leads with the highest number of teams, followed by the big-ten with six teams, the big-13 having four, ACC and PAC-12 with three each, and the American with one. However, the big-ten and PAC-12 won't be playing until the spring season and won't be included in the AP pool going forward.
The Bulldogs already played Auburn on October 3rd, winning 27-6 and beat Tennessee 44-21 on October 10th. The team will face Florida on November 11th.
